The Watch Vidocq OnlineUS Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security has issued notices to Synopsys, Cadence, and Siemens EDA, the three leading providers of electronic design automation (EDA) software, requiring them to stop offering services to China, according to Financial Times. While EDA software accounts for a relatively small share of the overall semiconductor industry, it is a vital part of the upstream supply chain. Chip designers and manufacturers rely on advanced EDA tools to develop and test next-generation chips. Synopsys, Cadence, and Siemens EDA together hold around 80% of the EDA market in China, the report said. At the time of writing, none of the three US companies had responded to requests for comment.
